The **Asphalt Finisher** is a key piece of heavy equipment used in road construction. It is essentially a mobile material distribution and preliminary compaction platform.

Its core function is to spread hot mix asphalt (HMA) evenly over the roadway subgrade to form a continuous, level paving layer of predetermined width, thickness, and arch, ready for final compaction by subsequent rollers.

A typical asphalt paver consists of the following main parts:

1. **Hopper**: used to receive the asphalt mixture from the dump truck.
2. **Conveyor System**: Continuous transportation of material from the hopper to the rear of the paving trough by a scraper conveyor (or winch).
3. **Screw Divider**: distributes the conveyed material transversely and evenly over the paving width.
4. **Screed**: This is the most critical component, which scrapes the distributed material to the required thickness and carries out preliminary compaction by means of the vibration or tamping function to ensure the denseness of the paving layer and the smoothness of the surface.
5. **Travel System**: Provides the power to move the equipment forward, usually tracked or tire-type.
